Initial Room Consultation

1. Meet with clients to determine the services needed for their home
2. Determine style, use of space and color scheme preferences
1. Review floor plans and any changes that need to be made
2. Existing home: if floor plans are not available, we will measure the areas pertinent to the renovation and draw up the plans and any changes to be made
3. Measure for window treatments

Design Development

1. Select furniture and place any existing furniture in the floor plan
2. Select finishes and fabrics
3. Select lighting and any fixtures needed to complete the design process
4. Present proposal and initiate orders with a deposit

*After initial interview and upon meeting in the home,
a Design Agreement for services is required.

Pre-Construction Design Services

This is an essential service prior to construction as it allows for reconfiguring of baths, kitchens, electrical floor outlets, closets, etc. within the space available.  It is important to have all decisions made in advance of construction so that construction can continue without unnecessary delay and costly changes.

During this time, a furniture floor plan is completed so that space for egress can be planned.  This is the time for any interior space to be reconfigured if necessary.  The proper lighting plan can also be done at this time since it is essential when planning the placement of furniture, cabinetry, bookcases and work areas. 

During this planning stage, the selection of flooring, appliances, plumbing fixtures, doors and windows, cabinetry and interior and exterior paint colors, with schedules and specifications of each will be completed.

It is my belief that the construction of a new home should be enjoyable and stress free for the home owner.  My job is to see that my clients enjoy seeing the progress of their new home and anticipate the completion without having to make stressful last minute decisions.  If a decision must be made, I am there to help with the resolution or in most cases, make decisions on behalf of the client.  I have over thirty years of knowledge and experience in the planning and designing of homes and interiors and working with clients.

Renovations

Renovations are wonderful to envision and anticipate, but precise planning is a must in order to enjoy the culmination of the construction period and installation of furniture.

When you love your home and its location, but want a new and better layout to the space, it is time to consult a professional to design the space for you and your family.  Sometimes, there is plenty of space in a home, but not enough good use of the space because of constrictions built into the home.  Or, maybe you have outgrown the layout that was once useful.  As a designer, I am able to reconfigure the existing space so that all of the spaces flow together and I can make sure an addition appears as if it has always been there and also draw the plans.

Once you have decided to hire a professional for your renovation and/or addition, you should interview more than one person to determine who will provide all of the services needed and who you feel confident will help you with all of the necessary decisions required for the project.

My consultation begins with the determination of the scope of work, use of space and look you are trying to achieve.  I then measure the existing spaces and draft the original plan that is to be reconfigured, including any additions which will be reviewed by the client for changes.  Once a drawing is approved, I then draft the final scale floor plan, including lighting and furniture floor plans and any needed elevations.  The selection of all materials will follow and I will make a schedule for the builder and client.  All materials will be ordered before construction begins which eliminates any delay of construction and allows for subs to be scheduled in a timely manner.

Lighting Plans

Lighting is extremely important in setting the ambience in a room.  Specialty lighting can be designated where art and sculpture or bookcases need spotlighting or task lighting in different spaces may also be needed.

A combination of lighting sources and applications can be used in the same space and should be specific to the illumination needed to enhance those spaces.  Function, as well as the design impact imbued is also important for lighting plans.

Lighting is usually the last thing people think of when planning their new home or renovation/addition and in most lighting plans, general ceiling lighting is used without considering the enhancement of the entire space.

Kitchens

The kitchen is often referred to as “the heart of the house”. Function and style are essential to the joy of cooking and entertaining family and friends in the home. The kitchen is a place where all congregate and share good food, drink and conversation; therefore, setting the appropriate ambience for this room is paramount.

With the addition of crystal chandeliers or lanterns and cabinetry that replicates furniture makes the kitchen an inviting area for everyone to enjoy and congregate, whether cooking or assisting the “chef”. The design of this room is not to be taken lightly.

Oriental Rugs

We carry antique and antique reproduction, hand spun 100% virgin wool, vegetable dyed and hand knotted.  The reproductions have also been hand washed to give them an antique patina.  Oriental rugs anchor a room and beautifully define a seating area.  These rugs are works of art for the floor.

Custom Draperies and Window Treatments

Custom window treatments and draperies are key to framing a view dictating the feeling you want to imbue in any room.  They are one of the vertical elements needed in every room.  Whether using a top treatment to soften a window, panels on custom rods, a roman or cottage shade or Venetian shade of sheer silk or linen, they all add to the look and ambiance of a room.
